Department of Performance Driving

Introduction: April 24th 2009

Welcome to the 2009 season of performance driving at Nelson Ledges Road Course. We have some exciting changes coming this season that we will be introducing throughout the early spring.

We are very proud to announce that we have a new associate joining us here at Nelson Ledges University. Reed Kryder has graciously offered to assist us with taking the performance driving program at Nelson to the next level. Reed will be the Senior Instructor or Head Chair of the Department of Performance Driving at Nelson Ledges University. 1 Reed has an extensive career that spans nearly four decades of performance driving, engineering, professional racing, professional driving instruction, and more. Additionally, Reed and his wife Sandy have been some of strongest and most active supporters of Nelson for many years.

Beginning with the April 23rd Funday, Reed will be instructing Introduction to Performance Driving Course Code NLU101. This is a mandatory pre-requisite to any performance driving activity at Nelson Ledges University. Since this is a new course offering, upperclassmen and alumni will not be required to retroactively complete this course offering. Consideration for transfer students will be determined based on transcript or (driving resume).

During the transition to a more formal driving program there will be no additional charge for NLU101. This class is designed to promote a safe, friendly, and confident introduction to performance driving. We encourage newer drivers, drivers new to Nelson, and experienced drivers to participate in this class to enhance their ability and knowledge. Like we have done in the past, we are actively promoting senior drivers, upperclassmen, and grads to continue to assist newer drivers by acting as Grad Assistants. There is no better way to learn than to teach and this creates the friendly community atmosphere that is the heart of Nelson.

Advanced Courses and Private Instruction:

The Introductory course will be held during the mornings throughout the 2009 season. We will be publishing a more detailed schedule shortly, indicating what classes are being offered when. In the afternoons, Reed will be available for private coaching similar to what a Club Pro would provide at a country club. Based on Reeds experience and the quality of his instruction we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to significantly enhance your driving abilities. Your support is critical to the success of the performance driving program at Nelson Ledges University and the track itself. As the program grows we will be offering advanced level classes on a variety of topics. These classes will include classroom instruction and on course application.

Student Membership:

As we formalize the performance driving department we are going to require formal registration. Just like any University sooner or later you must determine a major. The goal of registration or membership is to provide a level of exclusivity, enhance the value of participation, and continue to develop a community or club atmosphere. Starting with the May 30th Funday we are strongly encouraging pre-registration. Due to increased popularity and demand pre-registration will ensure we have adequate class space. More information will be available soon stay tuned.

Footnotes:

1 (Ill have to look up those nifty Latin terms that universities attached to there most experienced and accomplished professors.
